About Nav
Cookies and similar technologies on nav.no
About which cookies and similar technologies we use, what we use them for, and how you can manage your cookie settings.
What are cookies?
Nav uses cookies and similar technologies when you visit our website and use our logged-in services. This is technology that stores small pieces of information in your browser, or that retrieves information about your computer, tablet or mobile. In this text, we use the term "cookie" to describe this type of technology.
We need cookies to make nav.no as secure and user friendly as possible.
Which cookies do we use?
If you consent, we will use optional cookies to collect data for statistics and analytics, and to conduct voluntary user surveys and tests.
Why do we use optional cookies?
The goal is to collect data that helps us improve our website and services—without identifying you. We have taken several steps to prevent identification, and we do not share data with third parties.
The data provides us with valuable insights into:
- How people interact with our website and services
- What needs our users have
- What tasks they are trying to complete
- What obstacles might be getting in their way
This insight helps us make targeted improvements, making it easier for our users to find, understand and use information and services on nav.no. By collecting insights over time, we also measure the impact of changes we make.
The data we collect is only used to make Nav’s state and municipal services better. We do not share this data with external parties outside of Nav. The choice you make does not affect your right to receive benefits or services from Nav. You will get the help you are entitled to, whether you choose to accept optional cookies or not.

- How many people visit different pages
- How long each visit lasts
- Which websites users come from
- Which browsers are used
- The language settings of the browser
- The various screen or browser window sizes being used
- How the website and services are used, such as navigation between pages, clicks on buttons, menus and links, use of search, and similar actions
- How many users manage to complete important tasks, such as filling in an application or using a calculator
The statistics are anonymized and cannot be traced back to individual users. To prevent identification, we use a custom-developed proxy that removes parts of your IP address before sending the data to Amplitude.

Your privacy rights
The Norwegian Directorate of Labour and Welfare is responsible for processing your personal data. This includes information collected through cookies and similar technologies.
To protect your privacy, we have taken several steps to prevent that data we collect through cookies and similar technologies can be traced back to you. Because of this, some of the rights you normally would have under data protection laws — such as the right to access, correct, object to, limit, or delete your data — may not be possible to fulfil in this context. To do so, we would have to collect significantly more personal data in an attempt to identify you, which goes against good privacy practices.
Contact us if you have questions
If you have questions about privacy or your rights, you can contact Nav’s Data Protection Officer.
You can complain to the Norwegian Data Protection Authority
If you believe that your personal data is being processed in a way that violates privacy regulations, you have the right to file a complaint with the Norwegian Data Protection Authority.
